Moms and dads can cast their votes on various parenting issues, offer
feedback on products, print practical checklists and enjoy other interactive
tools and games at a new Web site, Interactive Parent (http://InteractiveParent.com).
The site links parents to information about everything from diapering tips to
parenting strategies to expert advice from a panel of pediatricians.
Most of the nearly 300 articles and features -- covering pregnancy through
raising teens -- invite users to get interactive by voting in polls, voicing
their opinions on the message boards, taking notes or downloading checklists.
Parents can quickly customize notes for the babysitter using one of the site's
online tools, or play a game to get ideas for rainy day activities. Visitors are
also invited to use the site's unique Reviews Database to rate and review their
favorite resources, such as minivans, TV shows, books and restaurants.
Parents can also take advantage of a proprietary service, the Interactive
Notepad, which allows visitors to save tips from the articles, write notes and
reminders to themselves, as well as store direct links to site downloads and
other favorite pages.
Californian Nancy Price and Betsy Gartrell-Judd of Ohio, who "met" online
after giving birth on the same day in 1996, designed Interactive Parent to
counter the "same old" presentation found on other parenting sites. Says Price,
"We're encouraging parents to get interactive -- to talk about whatever is in
the article, rate it, review it, vote on it or take something away with them --
like notes, checklists or charts. We go beyond 'just an article.'"
Site previews show that the two achieved their objective. "Packed with smart
advice and good ideas for all kinds of families, Interactive Parent offers a
fresh and fun place for parents to go on the Web," remarked Elizabeth Pantley,
mom of four and author of the books Perfect Parenting and Kid Cooperation. "Easy
to navigate and pleasant on the eyes, this is the perfect site for parents to
get connected with good information and each other. It has made its way to my
list of favorites."
Other Myria Media, Inc. properties include Myria, an award-winning online magazine for mothers;
ePregnancy.com, a site for expectant
parents; and SheKnows.com, a web directory
featuring sites of interest to women.
